After more than 40 years since the first use of an MRI scanner, this important medical imaging technology is seeing upgrades to improve accessibility and reduce stress associated with the procedure.
Some patients can feel anxious about getting an MRI because of the machine’s enclosed space or the loud noises it makes.
Dr. Daichi Hayashi, interim chair of radiology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, says the health system is home to one of the few state-of-the-art Philips MR 7700 3T MRI scanners in the U.S., which comes with “ambient experience” technology to reduce patient anxiety.
